Ireland women’s ill-fated mini-tour of India ended in a record 304-run defeat in Rajkot as their hosts completed a 3-0 whitewash in the World Championship one-day international series.
Pratika Rawal and captain Smriti Mandhana scored centuries in a massive total of 435-5 from 50 overs — India’s highest in ODIs — and the Girls in Green were bowled out for 131 in reply, after collapsing from 88-2.
Sarah Forbes top-scored with 41 and Orla Prendergast made 36 in a third wicket stand of 64.
While Gaby Lewis’s team were not expected to beat India, their plans were turned upside down when spinner Aimee Maguire was reported for a suspect action after the first game and withdrawn from the rest of the series.
“There have been a lot of learning for the girls coming up against world-class players,” skipper Lewis said.
“It was the first time here in India for some in our group, and our experience with the people and the noise was great.
“Different players showed up but we need more consistency with the ball and bat.”
