Play has been delayed for a number of reasons in cricket's long history. Aside from the obvious rain related ones, there have been a number of weird and wacky reasons for breaks or delays in play.

There's the monkeys that delayed an England tour match in India in 2012, the pig that Australian fans let onto the field in Brisbane during an ODI against England or the time a County Championship match at Old Trafford was delayed because of too much sunshine.

Added to that list is perhaps the cause of the delay to today's USA v Namibia match in Oman as World Cup League 2 resumed after a three month break. Both teams were delayed getting to the ground due to the roads being used for the Muscat Ironman Triathlon taking place in the Omani capital today.

Quite what the ICC was doing scheduling this game on the same day and in the same city as a sporting event that was likely to cause traffic issues is anyone's guess, but recent years have suggested that logistical planning isn't exactly the ICC's strong suit. Whether they have ANY strong suits is a question for another day.

Once the teams arrived and had warmed up, play had been reduced to a 43-over contest, with Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus winning the toss and asking the Americans to bat first. The early exchanges of the match saw a battle of the Smits with USA opener Smit Patel batting against Namibian all-rounder JJ Smit. The Namibian came out on top, bowling Patel for just three in the fourth over.

USA didn't let that early dismissal set them back with the second wicket pairing of Andries Gous and Monank Patel adding 110 before Patel was removed for 65, scored from 60 balls. Gous and Saiteja Mukkamalla added another 38 before Gous was out for 76, with Mukkamalla dismissed for 31 two overs later.

Milind Kumar hit a quick 54 from 34 balls to help the USA post 293-8 from their 43 overs. JJ Smit was the pick of the Namibian bowlers with 4-46 whilst Bernard Scholtz took 3-47.

Namibia then offered little in their reply with Malan Kruger's 32 their top score. Milind Kumar added to his half-century by taking 4-48 as Namibia were bowled out for 179, losing by 114 runs. The win sees the Americans pull clear of old rivals Canada at the top of the League 2 table.

The Namibians will look to bounce back when they take on tri-series hosts Oman on Monday. USA wait until Wednesday when they too will come up against the hosts.
