There was sad news this week with the passing of Mrs Maureen Byrne at the age of 102.
Mrs Byrne had a lifelong interest and involvement in cricket with The Hills.
Her late husband, Gerry, was a major influence in a variety of roles in the Fingal Cricket League for over 50 years.
Her sons Paddy and Martin played for the Hills and have also served as officers of the club, while her grandchildren, Patrick, Darren, Amanda, Robert, and Alice, have continued the Byrne family’s commitment to the Milverton club.
Cricket Leinster paid tribute to her work at the club which is renowned throughout Ireland for its legendary hospitality to all.
"Maureen, a founder member of The Hills in 1969 and also a Life Member, was one of the leading lights of the Ladies Committee which earned the club a richly deserved reputation for the quality of its hospitality.
"High class lunches and teas were prepared and provided over many, many years with great courtesy, willingness, and pride.
"On match days, Maureen was also known to complete a lap of the boundary so that she could exchange pleasantries with her friends and visitors.
"Our deepest sympathies to all the Byrne family and many friends at The Hills CC and the wider Fingal and Leinster club cricket community."
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
