Merrion have been busy behind the scenes in recent times with a strengthening and restructuring of their coaching set-up.

In the week where Ed Joyce announced his intention to step down as Head Coach of Ireland Women, his brother Dom has been appointed as Head Coach at the Anglesea Road side.

Dom, capped 69 times for Ireland between 2000-07, played with great distinction for Merrion, playing 402 times at senior level, making over 9000 runs and taking 243 wickets.

The 43-year-old was naturally delighted to be taking the reins, also paying tribute to his predecessor Nicky Kenny.

"I'm delighted and honoured to be named as 1st team men's coach for Merrion for the 2025 season," said Joyce.

"It will be a tough act to follow Nicky Kenny, who brought so much to the role over the previous eight years. His organisational ability, building of strong habits and winning mentality all contributed to lots of trophy success during his tenure.

"I'm looking forward to working with first-team captain Max Sorensen, Adam Rosslee and the wider squad in the months ahead."

Dom's appointment is just one of many changes at the club, as recently appointed Chair of Cricket, Greg Molins, himself a former international explains.

"In 2022 Merrion started the journey to build a sustainable model in respect to the development of youth within the club with the hiring of a full time development officer which help increase our youth numbers.

"Three years on after great progress we now need ensure some of our boys and girls progress within the club. We need youth members to become adult playing members irrespective of the team.

"This summer we have added a dedicated High Performance coach to increase contact hours for some of our boys and girls this summer. This ultimately will help us produce more 1st team cricketers . Something that we have struggled to do in recent years.

"It won't be easy and will take time but we are confident we are on the right path to achieve this goal. Both of our new coaches Jarryd Chetty and Hussein Manack will help us achieve this goal.

"We are committed to ensure every kid who walks through the gates of Angelsea road has a great experience and continues to play the game for many years

"The first team squad will benefit from Dom Joyce becoming the 1st coach. An excellent technical coach who will be a great influence to all players that come in contact with him this Summer."

The future for Merrion certainly looks bright both on and off the field.
