Lawrence Moore will be honoured with the Outstanding Contribution and Service to Irish Cricket award at the 13th Irish Cricket Awards on Thursday this week.

The Irish Cricket Awards recognises and celebrates the best of Irish cricket, from grassroots all the way up to international. One of the headline awards is the  Outstanding Contribution and Service to Irish Cricket, in honour of John Wright.

The Award recognises individuals who are held in the highest regard within the Irish cricket community, having made a significant long-term contribution to sustaining and growing the reputation of cricket, growing participation and/or advocating for improvements in facilities and opportunities for players.

Past recipients of this prestigious award include Dr Murray Power, Roy Torrens, Joe Doherty and Paul Reynolds.

Lawrence Moore has made an enormous contribution to cricket across a wide variety of roles during his 50-year association with the sport.

As a cricket player, he was a team player for over 30 years and won many competitions at all levels at North West cricket. A valuable member of Waterside and City of Derry cricket clubs, he was the essence of playing for the love of the game.

When his playing career finished, he took up umpiring, quickly moving through the ranks – eventually appointed to the International Cricket Council’s European Panel.

After retiring from umpiring, Lawrence volunteered at provincial level. He has held a variety of roles including Fixtures Secretary, Cricket Operations Chair, Board member and, most recently, Press Relations Officer. In this latter role, he volunteers every weekend to visit clubs, take photos and completes match day reports. He covers everything from Under-11s through to international matches and is tireless in his love of promoting the game in the North West.

Winner of the Volunteer of the Year Award at the 3rd Irish Cricket Awards in 2014, Lawrence has gained the respect of many throughout Ireland and is a deserving recipient of this prestigious Award.
