Ireland will play home series against West Indies and England as previously announced, but their continued financial constraints have led to the scrapping of the series against Afghanistan.
The Asian side, who along with Ireland were granted Full Member status in 2017, were due to visit for a Test and white-ball games as part of the Future Tours Programme.
However, this has now been put on the back-burner, and follows the scrapping of the T20I series against Australia last year.
“One planned series that won’t go ahead for financial reasons is against Afghanistan," said CEO Watrren Deutrom.
"This decision is part of our management of short-term budgetary constraints, as well as our requirement to comply with the Board’s mandate to deliver balanced investment across the organisation’s strategic objectives.”
Cricket Ireland recently advertised seven new jobs so it seems that cricket is secondary to these objectives.
Hopes that the delay of the fixtures announcement for over a month meant that a Test or at the very least a first-class match against South Africa as part of the build-up for the World Test Championship have seemingly been dashed, but the fixtures statement did hold out the prospect of potential fixtures further down the line.
Ireland have tours to Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh pencilled in as part of the FTP, but these can be best described as precarious at best.
The barren senior schedule sees July 15th to August 8th set aside for the new European T20 competition. Malahide and Voorburg the venues for the six-team event, featuring two sides apiece from Ireland, Holland and Scotland.
