Dutch Lions to face British Army at North East Series
KNCB Dutch Lions World Cup qualifying plans took further shape with the confirmation they would face the considerable challenge of the British Army at the ‘North East Cricket Series’ in July.
Moving into its 22nd year, ‘The North East Cricket Series’ has maintained its reputation as one to attend, with KNCB returning in 2025 to play a multi-format series including a special series of matches against the British Army as preparation for their ICC World Cup U19 Qualifiers in Scotland the following week.
Subir Shrestha, KNCB’s High Performance Youth HP Operations Manager, was delighted to see the series news being unveiled adding: “The Army has an incredible history in the North East of England. Just speaking with locals you can sense the Army means so much to so many, and it is an honour for the Dutch Lions to represent the KNCB, in providing the servicemen with a cricket series.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank John, all the staff at North East Cricket Series, and Major Greenwood at ACA, for their work in making that invitation possible. The Dutch Lions know they face a considerable cricketing challenge, but this is what we seek from our series, something that allows the players to gain new experiences, learn from the opposition, and grow as people”.
Army Cricket Association Operations Manager Major (Retd) Paul Greenwood “The Army Cricket Association is delighted to be returning to the North East Cricket Series in July. We have always enjoyed our trips up North, and this year, it is a pleasure to join our hosts NUSC in ensuring the Dutch Lions reach those World Cup Qualifiers ready after playing a tough Tri Series”.
John D Holland, the North East Cricket Series Director added “I know that I speak for all of the partners in the North East Cricket Series in saying the Army Cricket is always welcome. The Army means so much to so many here in the North East and my thanks to Major Greenwood for all of his assistance in ensuring the considerable logistics have been smoothly handled, and to the KNCB led by Subir Shrestha, for their willingness to create this special Tri-Series in July”.
‘The North East Cricket Series’ will be releasing more series details including venues, formats, and live streaming details in the coming weeks.
