The 2025 season is underway today with a round of T20 matches. In Series 1A, KB was in Jutland, to play against both Kolding and Skanderborg. The first match was between KB and Kolding. It was played in cool, cloudy conditions with a damp pitch after rain early in the morning. Kolding won the toss and chose to bat first. Kolding did not get a great start when Mohammad Shahid's first shot went straight up in the air and was caught by KB's keeper Donald.
It did not get any better when Søren Skov was run out on a direct hit. New man Tiran Gunasekara did not last long and was also run out, Kolding was 14 for 3 in the fourth over, but Vijay Kumar (41) and Bikash Karmakar (42) got Kolding going again. Here the difference between the teams was most evident, as both batsmen hit the ball across the face in their offensive play. It was effective until the 18th over, when Bikash was bowled out. The next man Tahir was run out on the first ball, while Vijay was caught out by bowler Mark Hocking. Kolding finished on 108 for 6 after 20 overs. Mark Hocking was KB's best bowler with 2 for 11.
KB opened with their new captain Hamid Shah (49*), who has switched to KB from Svanholm, and keeper Kudakwashe Donald (55*). They settled into the game from the start and they did not bat across. Donald was especially strong on the off-side, while Hamid showed his strength on the leg side. None of Kolding's bowlers could break through, but Donald gave a good catching chance which was lost. KB passed Kolding's total in the 11th over.
The second match in Kolding was between Skanderborg and KB. Skanderborg were not at full strength as Surja Anand is still injured and Monty was in Italy. Skanderborg won the toss and sent KB to the wicket. As Skanderborg has done many times before, Nikolaj Damgaard won the toss and he bowled Hamid Shah in the first over. With Anders Bülow bowling from the other end, KB came under some pressure with only 11 on the board after 3 overs, but Donald quickly changed this with 2 fours and a six in Anders' next over.
Donald along with Anique Uddin (24) lifted KB to the eighth over with 54 on the board when Anique tried to hit a six along the leg side but instead found Anders Bülow. Saif Ahmed was quickly caught out but Zameer Khan (27) continued with Donald until Zameer was bowled behind by Kamran Mahmood. Donald found a new partner in Zakria Raja until he himself was caught on the boundary with 157 on the board in the last over. With a few airy shots at the end, KB ended up at 172 for 5.
KB's Donald is hit for four by Kudawashe of Skanderborg (Peter Power)
Skanderborg's reply was initiated by Nikolaj Damgaard (29), who immediately went on the attack and after 3 overs the total was 33 when Omar Hyatt (1) was caught. Damgaard himself fell in the same over while trying another big hit. Shangeev Thani (17) was joined by Kamran Mahmood (1) who was quickly caught and in the 6th over Shangeev fell.
This meant that Rizwan Mahmood (74*) and Anders Bülow (49) came together and they tackled KB's spin bowlers. With no fewer than 5 sixes, Rizwan showed the way, well supported by Anders, and they kept up the scoring rate, so that Skanderborg could pass KB with 6 balls again. Mark Hocking was KB's best bowler with 3 for 27 and Ehsan Karimi was able to keep the scoring down at one end.
In the second group in Series 1, Svanholm and Glostrup met, with Glostrup putting Svanholm in to bat. Svanholm got a good start led by Musa Mahmood (33) and Abdul Hashmi (72) where Musa was caught with 77 on the board. Abdul led the way with his partner Mads Henriksen (35) until he himself was caught at 133. Mads and brother Jonas had Svanholm on 160 after the 20 overs. Glostrup also got a good start with Sebastian Heath (31) and Dinesh Kannan (38). Sebastian was caught at the total of 56 after 5 overs. The hero for Glostrup was Mudasser Ali (50*) who, with the help of Ridhin Sharma (16*), passed Svanholm with one over again. This gave them the surprise of the day.
The second match in the group was between AB and Ishøj, where AB chose to bat first. It did not really work out for AB, who regularly lost wickets and were out for 102 in the last over. Only captain Mukarram Hussain made a small impact with 19. For Ishøj, it was Azim Khan with 3 for 27 and Muhammad Salman with 3 for 10 who did the most damage. Led by Lucky Ali Malik (46*) and Delawar Khan (43*), Ishøj was able to pass AB in the 13th over for the loss of 2 wickets.
