A half century from New South Wales Under 19 player Andrew Boulton helped Dublin University beat North Leinster by 45 runs in the opening round of the U-23 District Cup.

Boulton, who plays at Pembroke, came to the wicket after just two balls when Macdara Cosgrave was run out, dominated a second wicket stand of 99 with Donncha Tucker.

He top-scored with 74 from just 58 balls (7 fours, 2 sixes) to help the students post 157 for 4 - runs too for the in-form Jamie Forbes (26).

Oliver Horlock (2-22) and Cillian McDonnell (1-17) the successful bowlers.

Horlock (28) hit the only six of a chase that never really got going, with Hassan Shahid's 54 from 58 balls (3 fours) the main effort of their 112 for 5.

The Trinity bowlers stuck to their task well, with a wicket apiece for Luke Murray, Ben McCabe, Jack Atkinson, Donncha Tucker and Macdara Cosgrave.
