SION LOOKING TO SOAR AGAIN
The North West’s most successful side in the Senior Cup are back in the premier event after an eleven-year hiatus. Sion Mills have won the competition no fewer than 29 times, six more than second placed Donemana.
The last of those victories came way back in 1984, but the Holm side have been included in this year’s event after a period in the senior wilderness and Simon Galloway is hoping that their inclusion can kick start something special at The Holm.
“Sion are certainly excited to be back in the North West’s blue-ribbon event this year after many years absent,” said Galloway.
“You can’t talk about the Senior Cup without Sion Mills being mentioned given our illustrious past. Whilst we know we are a long way from those glory days we are trying to improve year on year and entering such competitions provides us with exposure at those levels and particularly to our younger members.
“We are fully aware of the task ahead against Coleraine but we will give it our all and hope to do ourselves justice. One thing we won’t be lacking is heart or commitment that’s for sure. We are all really looking forward to the day.”
It certainly won’t be easy for Sion Mills against a Coleraine side laying second in the Premiership after a strong start, but they will know they can’t take any opponents lightly, especially after what happened recently in their T20 loss at Championship side Burndennett.
