STRABANE SEEK SOLACE IN THE CUP
It’s been a tough few weeks for newly promoted Strabane, with heavy losses in both league games against Bready and Coleraine. Their batting in particular has looked frail, while their bowling has looked rusty. Still, they are back to full strength after missing four players in those matches.
They have the chance to forget their league woes as they take on St Johnston in the cup, a game that will always evoke memories of the 1982 final when Ian Rankin made a record score of 167 in an innings win for the Donegal side – and one that still stands to this day.
Skipper Kevin Gallagher admits the Red Caps have been far from their best, but is backing his side to come good in the coming weeks.
“It certainly hasn’t been the best of starts for us in the league, but the lads are willing to put the work in to try get us up and running with a few wins,” said Gallagher.
“We are fully aware that St Johnston aren’t going to be a walkover, as it’s always been a good battle against them when we play them.
“We look forward to it and are very motivated to try get into the second round of senior cup and get the win that could well be the catalyst for kickstarting our campaign.”
