THERE was good news and bad for the Ireland bowling attack when the squad was announced for next week’s three one-day internationals against the West Indies at Clontarf.

Left-arm speedster Josh Little is available after his stint in the Pakistan Super League but all-rounder Mark Adair is still recovering from injury and will not be back until next month’s T20 series in Bready, Co Tyrone.

The Ireland selectors have named three uncapped players in their 14-strong squad: the South African-born trio of Cade Carmichael, Tom Mayes and Liam McCarthy.

“Liam has been in our thinking for a while,” coach Heinrich Malan said. “He’s a consistent performer in domestic cricket and brings something different with a little bit more pace, and the ability to shape the ball in, and away from the left handers.

“Cade has also been on our radar as a top order player. He scored a hundred on the Wolves trip, and a hundred in List A cricket in the week as well, while Tom Mayes fits that bill of cover for Mark Adair who misses out in the ODI squad.”
