RUNS flowed in College Park on Saturday, as Saif Ur Rehman Malik scored an unbeaten 211 for Dublin University 2nd XI against Mullingar 2nd XI in a 40-over Division 10 match.
It is the highest score in Leinster competition since Adam Tantas made precisely the same score for Balbriggan 4ths v Kilkenny 2nds at Jack Harper Park in 2022.
It is only second double century ever made for Trinity 2nds, following the 266 made by George Kenny against Rathmines School P&P at College Park in 1876.
Saif batted No.3 and came in with the score on 55 in the 12th over. He was there until the innings closed on 356-4, scoring 211 in 28 overs at the wicket. He hit 9 sixes and 28 fours and faced 92 balls.
The total of 356 is a club record in limited overs cricket.
Saif is in his first season with Trinity, having joined the college staff last August as an Assistant Professor in Computer Science.
He made his debut against Finglas two weeks ago, scoring 1, and made 58 last week against Dundalk.
Saif did his degree in Islamabad, Pakistan, and his doctorate in North Dakota. He spent five years working in Estonia, where he played cricket for the Tallinn Hippos. While in Estonia in 2019 he scored the first double century in that country’s league, scoring 205 not out against Eesti Tigers. He also hit six sixes in one over.
