FOXIES FIRING UNDER NEW SKIPPER

Fox Lodge had a great win on Saturday as they travelled to Belfast and came away with victory, thanks to strong performances in particular from Gayan Maneeshan and Adam Walker. Their reward is another day trip to the NCU, this time to face 2014 winners Carrickfergus in what will be a tough task for the Ballymagorry side.

They are led this season by Jonny Robinson, taking over the reins from Aaron Heywood. It’s been an enjoyable transition so far for the experienced all-rounder.

“We’ve had a great start to the season with only one loss to date to a strong Bready side in the Senior Cup,” said Robinson. “We should have probably won that one having them 87 for 7 and letting them off the hook a bit.

“The lads have really come together and bonded as a unit. We’re just taking it one game at a time. Our main focus is the league, and any cup runs are a bonus.

“We’ve got a decent squad of players this year. Adam Walker has been outstanding with the ball, his pace and accuracy up front has been outstanding. It’s also a huge asset having the experience of Jason Milligan and Brian Allen in the middle order to steady things when needed.

“Aaron Heywood is dependable as ever with the ball and is enjoying the return to 50 overs getting to bowl longer spells. Ali Doherty missed out last season due to a knee injury and it’s great having him back in the team. He’s super in the field and has the ability to do real damage with the bat and ball.

“Our overseas man Gayan Maneeshan has been fantastic with both bat and ball. His 150 against Cregagh in the National Cup was top class. It was a great win on the road. Gayan’s runs helped us post an above par score and even though we didn’t bowl quite as well as we know we can and put a few catches down, we still won comfortably, which is always a good sign.

“This weekend we are away to neighbours Burndennett and hopefully we can keep the momentum going and take the points home.”
