Scotland Under 15's fired the opening salvo with a 74-run win against Ireland in the opening match of the Under 15 Celtic Cup at Nunholm.

The hosts posted 233 for 9 with Nathan Umeed top-scoring with an unbeaten 59 (4 fours, 2 sixes), and runs too for Aaban Owais (42) and Alex Turner (40) who shared a stand of 76 for the third wicket, while Hamish Turner made 23.

Callum Armstrong took three wickets, while there were two apiece for Aadil Naizam and Lewis Pearson.

Rush left-hander Armstrong (28) shared an opening stand of 73 with Railway Union prodigy Ted Hasler who top-scored with 62 (10 fours) before a flurry of wickets saw them in trouble at 95 for four.

David Agnew made 22 and at 135 for 5 they were in with a chance, but a second collapse saw five wickets fall for 24 to be 159 all out.

Akash Bala (4-13) did most of the damage, while there were two each for Marcus Villa and Aaban Owais.

The teams meet again on Wednesday in a match rescheduled from Monday because of the storm.
