AIMEE MAGUIRE has been given the green light to resume her international career after remedial work on her bowling action that was deemed illegal after being reported at the end of Ireland’s match against India in Rajkot in January.

The 18-year-old left-arm spinner, who plays for The Hills, has remodelled her deliveries and is now seen to be within the 15 degrees of tolerance allowed in her bowling arm.

While the all-clear has come too late for Maguire to add to her 20 caps in the three-match T20 series against Pakistan that starts at Clontarf this afternoon (WEDS) skipper Gaby Lewis expects her to soon pick up where she left off.

“It’s a huge relief for Aimee and the Ireland management who have worked so hard together over the last six months, not only on her action but on the mental side of things too,” Lewis said.

“It was a big knock to her confidence but she’s in a great place now and just needs some games behind her.”

Lewis is anticipating another trial by spin from Pakistan but after winning the last series between the sides 2-1 in Lahore, she is confident of more success on home soil.

“They’re a spin dominant team, but we beat them in Pakistan and we can take great confidence from that,” Lewis said.

“We haven’t played them in a T20 for a while but they’ve still got many of the same bowlers so we know what to expect and hopefully there’ll be less spin in our pitches.”

All three T20s will be played at Clontarf, with the second on Friday and what could be a decider, between two evenly-matched sides, on Sunday.
