On Saturday Heriot’s had no trouble in chasing another modest target as they secured the Eastern Premier title with an eight-wicket win over Stewarts Melville at Inverleith.

Having claimed 2-22 from ten overs to help restrict the hosts to 154-9, Watt then bludgeoned five maximums and eight boundaries in a 41-ball 70 while Lloyd Brown finished unbeaten on 66 as the champions reached the target in just 16.3 overs.

Carlton and Grange are likely to finish second and third after victories over Edinburgh South and RH Corstorphine respectively.

Chris McBride claimed four wicket and hit 86 in Carlton’s four-wicket success while Grange’s seven-wicket win owed much to a brilliant 109no by Jamie Crawley.

At the other end of the table Falkland secured their top flight status for another season with a battling victory over Arbroath at Scroggie Park.

The Fifers had fallen dangerously close to the relegation zone after an untimely loss of form in recent weeks, and it looked as if the slump might continue after a poor start against the Lichties.

Having elected to bat, Falkland were soon in trouble on 9-3 as opening bowlers Cameron Brown and Keegan Crawford made good use of the new ball, Steven Meikle, Jack Henderson and Stuart Campbell all edging catches to visiting keeper Iain Worth.

In-form Asif Khan also went cheaply before a century stand between Jarryd Lookwhy and Logan Briggs repaired the damage.

The pair added 142 before Briggs fell for a resolute 45 but Lookwhy went on to complete a brilliant unbeaten 111, facing 137 deliveries and stroking fourteen boundaries and a maximum.

There was also some explosive hitting from Jack Bell whose 20-ball 35no propelled the home side’s total to 245-5.

Arbroath appeared to be cruising when they reached 72-1 but when Taha Khan removed Darryl Sinclair for 32 and Worth with consecutive deliveries, the momentum shifted in favour of the Fifers.

Khan completed figures of 3-32 while there were two wickets apiece for Zane Schlebusch, Briggs and Julian de Jager as Arbroath were dismissed for 182 in 39.5 overs.

Sinclair, Hayden Laing and Brown all passed 30 but no-one played the major innings required as the Lochlands men slipped to a fifth straight defeat.

Falkland may be safe but Meigle’s hopes of survival were dashed when they fell to defeat against Forfarshire at Forthill, meaning they can no longer overhaul second bottom Stewarts Melville.

Harjeet Brar hit 79 and Glenn Carnegie 53 as ‘Shire were dismissed for 233, Tassawar Hussain claiming 3-41.

Michael Leask then took five key wickets as the visitors fell 38 runs short, Sami Ejaz top-scoring with 39.

Clydesdale secured the first part of their double – the Western Premiership One title - with a commanding 198-run win over Stenhousemuir at The Tryst on Saturday.

Paddy Barbour top-scored with 98 in a total of 285-6 before Zeeshan Bashir, arguably the league’s bowler of the season, claimed 6-9 as the home side were routed for 87.
