Amy Hunter scored her second T20 international century in Rotterdam to set up a crushing 179-run victory over Germany that secured Ireland’s place in next year’s Global Qualifiers for the World Cup.
Hunter stormed to 114 not out from 67 balls, with 17 fours, adding 144 for the second wicket with Leah Paul as the Girls in Green posted their record T20 score of 223-1 against the minnows of the four-team European eliminator.
Paul impressed with the ball too, with much more aggression and rhythm in left-arm spin, as she claimed 2-4 to go with her 62 not out from 33 balls.
The spin pairing of Cara Murray and Freya Sargent returned joint figures of 2-11 from eight overs, and with only Extras reaching double figures Germany were restricted to 44-8.
“It was a lot of fun out there,” Hunter said. “We had to dig in a little bit at the start, then go from there and build the innings.”
After beating Italy by 63 runs on Saturday, Ireland maintained their 100 per cent record in the tournament and will be confident of a fifth straight win when they meet the Netherlands tomorrow before a final game against Italy on Wednesday.
