Papua New Guinea wicketkeeper Kiplin Doriga has been charged with robbery during the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League tournament in Jersey.
He was taken into custody after an incident on Monday morning in the Jersey capital St Helier. He appeared before a magistrates court on Wednesday morning where the magistrate judged the issue to be serious enough to be escalated to a higher court, where Doriga will appear on 28th November.
Doriga was denied bail and will remain in custody until the November hearing.
Kiplin Doriga (Cricket Papua New Guinea)
Doriga has been a regular for Papua New Guinea over the last eight years, playing 39 ODIs and 43 T20Is.
This is not the first time Papua New Guinea has had players in trouble during a tour. At a Under-19 World Cup Qualifier in Japan in 2019, they had to forfeit the deciding match against the hosts as most of the squad was in custody after a shoplifting incident in Sano.
That was resolved with no further legal ramifications - after diplomatic negotiations - but this incident would, on the face of it, appear to be more serious.
