North Down stalwart Ally Shields is off to pastures new having agreed to join Muckamore for the 2026 season.

It had been thought that the 31-year-old was hanging up his boots but has opted for a new challenge at Moylena.
Shields made his debut as a 14-year-old in 2008 for the Comber side, going on to make 275 appearances at the Green.
His haul of 6793 runs at almost 30 (44 fifties, 4 hundreds) is bettered only by Ryan Haire in the modern era at North Down.
Shields has also taken 173 wickets at 24.96, while also taking 120 catches and getting 20 run-outs.
“I’m delighted to be joining Muckamore for the 2026 season," Shields told the Muickamore FB page.
"Having played with and against a number of the squad previously, it’s a group I’m excited to join up with and I look forward to a successful season.
"When I spoke to a couple of guys at the club, it was clear that they have ambitions to be competitive in all competitions going forward, and I look forward to playing a big part in that this season.
"Leaving North Down has not been an easy decision for me. I have nothing but respect for the club and I wish them the best for the season ahead.
"I’ve had 15 fantastic years there, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge with Muckamore in 2026.”
