Pembroke opening bowler Olly Riley will skipper Ireland at the U19 World Cup next month with fellow paceman Reuben Wilson, of Clontarf, as his vice-captain.

The 15-strong squad announced also features highly-rated Railway Union batsman Rob O’Brien, a nephew of Niall and Kevin, plus three sons of former internationals: James West, Callum Armstrong and Freddie Ogilby.

The team will be based in the Namibia capital Windhoek, and play group matches against Australia, Sri Lanka and Japan.

Meanwhile, coach Heinrich Malan is delighted with the form of his senior Ireland team going into today’s series decider against Bangladesh in Chattogram.

“We’ve shown some real progress over the last two games,” Malan said. “There's a lot that we did really, really well, and there’s a few areas that we want to try and improve on.

“When we started this series, we were clear that it’s part of our T20 World Cup build up. We obviously haven't had the amount of cricket that we would have wanted throughout the year, but that’s in the past. We’re now just focusing on where we’re at. 

“In the two games we have really shown a clarity of thought and the process that we’re looking for. 

“The T20 game has evolved massively and we want to free our players up to go out there and express themselves — and we’ve seen that in the last week.”
